Join us in the magnificent Drakensberg mountains at Giant’sCastle, home of the Eland and the majestic Bearded Vulture, for this 3 day workshop/outing in the vulture hide. Great photo opportunities to capture the Cape as well as Bearded Vultures, in flight and hopefully landing not more than 100m from this beautiful hide high up on the side of the mountain.

We will arrive on the Friday afternoon and after a relaxing dinner we will retire for the evening. We have the exclusive use of the hide for Saturday, Sunday end we depart on Monday. We generally spend the mornings in the hide and the afternoons looking at our images and doing some processing. There will also be opportunities to do some landscapes of the beautiful surroundings as well as possibly some Milky Way shots if the weather plays along.

You will receive hands on training by your host, Robbie Aspeling. Robbie is the recipient of a coveted Owl Award from Birdlife SA for his contribution to birding through photography. He has more than 30 years experience photographing birds and has been a regular speaker and trainer at many bird photography events throughout South Africa.

Giants Castle Game Reserve lies in the Central Berg region of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park.  It’s name comes from the silhouette of the mountain escarpment that resembles the profile of a sleeping giant.

Giants castle camp is situated on a grassy plateau among the deep valleys running down from the face of the High Drakensberg, offering glorious views for hikers and mountain climbers.
